Punny Tree Sapling Dirt Pudding

These little dirt puddings are a no-bake, kid-friendly dessert layered with chocolate pudding, crushed cookies, and a little sprig of mint. They’re just right for a Tu B’Shevat table, easy to make ahead and even easier to assemble with kids, which means they can double as dessert and activity. One gentle note from experience: The mint is happiest when it’s added at the last minute (otherwise, it’ll wilt).

Punny Tree Sapling Dirt Pudding

Makes about 6-10 pudding cups, depending on cup and layer size

2 cups cold milk

1 (3.9-ounce) package instant chocolate pudding

1½ cups crushed Oreos (or whatever chocolate cookies you prefer!)

1 package candy rocks

1 bunch fresh mint sprigs, stems attached

Serving cups, popsicle sticks, alphabet stamp set, ink pad, miniature spoons (or shovels!)

Prepare the pudding according to the package directions, whisking together the milk and instant pudding until fully dissolved. Let stand for 5 minutes to set.

Spoon the pudding into small cups, filling each about halfway. Top with crushed Oreos, candy rocks, and a small sprig of mint trimmed to your desired height (this is your “tree sapling”).

Using alphabet stamps and an ink pad, stamp short, punny messages onto popsicle sticks, keeping the text brief (part of each stick will be submerged). Insert one stick into each pudding.

Serve with spoons or mini shovels!
