Hamantaschen-Inspired S’mores
Here’s a very simple, very charming dessert for Purim from the blog archives (this was actually one of the first things I ever posted about way back in 2019!): s’mores hamantaschen! It’s kid-friendly without being kid-coded, and requires no baking—just softened graham crackers and marshmallows briefly toasted over a low flame (supervised! please!!). Think of it less as a recipe and more as an activity.
Hamantaschen-Inspired S’mores
Makes about 50 treats
1 (15-ounce) box graham crackers
1 (16-ounce) bag marshmallows, each halved lengthwise
1–2 chocolate bars, broken into small pieces
1–2 long wooden or bamboo skewers (longer length is key here!)
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips (optional, for drizzling)
Place 2 graham crackers (each broken in half) on a microwave-safe plate in a single layer. Cover with a damp—nearly wet—paper towel so it just touches the crackers. Microwave for 20–30 seconds, checking at 20 seconds; they should be soft and pliable but not soggy. Note: The plate may be hot—be careful.
Leaving the crackers on the plate, carefully cut each softened cracker half diagonally to form two triangles. You’ll end up with 8 small triangles. Let cool for at least 5 minutes to firm up.
Thread 4 marshmallow halves onto a skewer and roast with a kitchen torch until golden and gooey. Set aside. (Optional tip: Kosher marshmallows will be slightly fluffier if microwaved for 5–10 seconds before roasting.)
Let kids (or willing adults) build their hamantaschen by sandwiching a roasted marshmallow and a small piece of chocolate between two graham cracker triangles. Drizzle with melted chocolate, if using, and top with a tiny piece of marshmallow to mimic the look of a traditional hamantaschen. Serve immediately while warm and melty.
